LAMDA Directors’ Showcase: The Pig

Venue: Theatre503
Date: 25–27/08/2025
Type: Theatre

Cristal lives on a pig farm with her best friend Bessie the pig and her grandmother. One night, when Cristal realizes that her grandmother has slaughtered Bessie and served her for dinner, Cristal runs away to her brother Moth, who works in a biscuit factory. On her way to him, Cristal loses consciousness and finds herself in a hospital, where she is told she has been living with a pig’s heart in her chest. She finds the factory, where she meets and works for the factory’s owner, Mr. Cupcake, and his assistant, Margaret. The Pig is an absurd neo-folktale that interrogates the value of the human body in a capitalist dystopia where body parts are sold for profit. In this thrilling world of “eat or be eaten”, the piece calls to question human agency in the face of systems that control us – and whether any of our choices are made through free will or through systemic coercion. This staging of the Pig will be featuring LAMDA students and alumni in the cast and creative team. Running time: 70 minutes (no interval) Age guidance: 16+
