This exciting collaboration pairs Scottish pianist now based in London Fraser Urquhart with special guest, winner of the 2021 Ella Fitzgerald Vocal Jazz Competition Lucy Wijnands. Born in Kansas City and now living in Brooklyn New York, Lucy has toured all over the world, including a 16-week residency singing with the renowned Birdland Big Band and regular appearances at Manhattan's Mezzrow and other jazz clubs while sharing the stage with Jon Faddis, Ron Carter, Joe Magnarelli, Peter Washington, Johnny O'Neal, Houston Person and other highly regarded jazz artists. Her father, Bram Wijnands, is one the few living masters of stride piano and this rich musical background helped inform Lucy's deep feeling for this classic repertoire. Born and raised in Edinburgh, Fraser Urquhart is rapidly becoming one of the UK's foremost jazz pianists. Cutting his teeth on the vibrant Scottish jazz scene, his fluent and exciting playing has been heard at all the major jazz venues as well as the Edinburgh & and Glasgow Jazz Festivals, both in his own right and as accompanist to a host of high-profile jazz musicians such the Award-winning Scottish vocalist Georgia Cecile. Joined by Tom Farmer-bass and Luke McCarthy-drums, this swinging, stellar quartet will play beloved standards and rare gems from the Great American Songbook.
"A formidable vocal talent" Hot House Jazz Magazine; "Urquhart…unfailingly elegant piano playing" Bebop Spoken Here; "Extremely tasty sound at the piano" Jamie Cullum, BBC
