Award-winning UK-born guitarist Phil Robson's fluent and creative playing was first recognised as something special in the 90's. His band 'Partisans', co-led with saxophonist Julian Siegel become a seminal influence on the UK and European contemporary scene for over 20 years. Also known for his work with acclaimed singer/songwriter Christine Tobin, in addition Phil has led bands featuring jazz legends such as David Liebman, Mark Turner, Billy Hart, & Marc Copland, as well as working with a huge cross spectrum of internationally renowned artists including Kenny Wheeler, Barbra Streisand, Steve Lacy, Vince Mendoza, Donny McCaslin, Django Bates, Phil Woods, Steve Wilson, Maceo Parker & others too numerous to list.
Based in New York from 2015-2020, Phil struck up a musical partnership with acclaimed US saxophonist Jed Levy. Jed's compositions have been performed and recorded by such luminaries as Mike Clark, Charlie Hunter, The Headhunters and Eddie Henderson, while keeping a busy schedule as a sideman working with Jaki Byard, Lonnie Smith, Cedar Walton, Tom Harrell and more. They soon became a regular feature in the city's iconic venues such as Smalls, Birdland, 55 Bar and the rest, as well as touring in the UK, Germany, Spain, Ireland and California. Though Phil is now living in Ireland, they recorded their debut album, 'The Unpredictability of the Sea' while in Rome on tour last year. With new compositions written by Robson and Levy, they describe the music as "innovative and contemporary whilst remaining highly melodic and groovy", strongly rooted in tradition while providing ample opportunity for both of these exceptional musicians to express their individual character and style. Joined by Dave Whitford on bass and Shane O'Donovan on drums, this performance will be the first time listeners can hear this music live and is their only London date!
