A highly respected player on the scene saxophonist Vasilis Xenopoulos's fluent, muscular, creative tenor sax has been heard with an impressive variety of leading British and International musicians. Best known here at the Club for his regular appearances with the classic hard bop band "Five Way Split" tonight Vasilis brings his own quartet to the Club, dedicated the great tradition of the jazz tenor saxophone. Alongside a selection of jazz standards the quartet will perform Vasilis's own arrangements of music inspired by legendary tenor saxophonists such as Dexter Gordon, Hank Mobley & Sonny Rollins. An evening of swinging, soulful and hard-driving straight-ahead jazz, combining the spirit of these iconic players with the energy and spontaneity of a contemporary jazz quartet. Also featuring Rob Barron-piano.
